Committees
The Forest Hills Gardens Corporation has a number of active committees, each of which help maintain the high standards and beauty of our community. Are you a resident who is interested in volunteering for a committee? Please fill out the volunteer application in the Member's Area of our website.
We look forward to hearing from you!
Architecture
The Architecture Committee members are committed to work with the residents of Forest Hills Gardens to guide their plans for renovations or additions to properties, and to prevent erosion of the Forest Hills Gardens’ unique planning guidelines as documented in Declaration #3.
Communications
The Communications Committee is responsible for the preparation of the Newsletter and the two annual community meetings: Budget (September) and Election (December). These are the major means of communication between the community and the Corporation as dictated by the By-Laws. Members are particularly involved with the content of the Newsletter: gathering, writing, editing and formatting.
Finance
The Finance Committee focuses the Corporation’s resources to best serve the needs of the community. The committee reviews and oversees the budget including income, expenditures, and cash accounts. Guidance is provided to all FHGC committees regarding budgetary matters. It also reviews the status of maintenance arrears with the Board to determine next collections steps. The Finance Committee is currently comprised of the members of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors. The Board accepts written comments, suggestions, and questions on budget matters from our community's members during the annual Budget Meeting in September.
Landscape
The Landscape Committee is responsible for overseeing both hardscape and landscape elements of the Gardens' common areas.
Law
The Law Committee is comprised of various lawyers in the community who provide guidance to the Corporation as it strives to achieve its corporate objectives and interfaces with outside legal counsel regarding lawsuits involving the Corporation.
Membership
The Membership Committee has been established to introduce new homeowners to the community as well as introduce the community to new homeowners, in addition to organizing the Annual New Members Gathering. The members of the committee will meet and greet new homeowners as neighbors; each member has a focus area within FHG. Committee members will provide informative documents to new Members including but not limited to Declaration # 3 and the Architectural Committee Application requirements, to assist new Members as they become familiar with FHG.
Office
The FHGC Office Committee is seeking volunteers to work on special projects; new owners’ membership binders, scanning historical photographs and documents, organizing files and blueprints. Extensive filing of letters, invoices, work orders, documents associated with all committees -- flexible hours in a warm and friendly environment with an appreciative office staff.
Parking
The Parking Committee meets monthly to review the parking control program as well as to hear and settle appeals.
Security
The Security Committee oversees the contract with Epic Security Services. The Chair meets with Epic staff to review pertinent issues and concerns. In addition, the Committee has met with the Commanding Officer of the 112th Precinct to review local and area-wide security and crime issues. The committee meets 3-4 times a year, or on an "as-needed" basis.
Traffic
The Traffic Committee was established to study and observe the traffic flow on our streets and to implement measures to help keep our streets safe. Our main goal is to keep our streets safe for pedestrians, especially our children, and to keep non-Gardens Traffic flow to a minimum.
Tree
Part of what makes the Gardens so special is its diverse and beautiful tree life. The Tree Committee oversees tree planting and pruning, as well as the removal of unhealthy trees along the Gardens streets and parks. Anyone can volunteer to help the committee by keeping their eyes out for tree issues in the community. If you see a tree that appears to be unhealthy, or could otherwise pose a danger, please call the Forest Hills Gardens Office and report its location. The tree committee will come out and assess the situation.
Upkeep
This Upkeep Committee oversees the construction and landscaping crews who are responsible for the maintenance of the Gardens. This includes; repair and replacement of roads, sidewalks, street lamps and signs; snow removal; street and sewer cleaning; seeding, fertilization, and grass cutting of parks and curb plots; tree inspection, pruning, removal, and replanting. Plans are developed upon which the annual budget is based. Meetings are held as needed.
