Please....Do Your Part Overgrown Bushes lead to
Impassable Sidewalks
With The Gardens in full bloom this summer, please take a moment to consider if your landscaping is obstructing our community's sidewalks. While many residents do their part to keep their plantings neatly trimmed, some have allowed overgrowth to develop. It is imperative that we keep our sidewalks clear and passable for pedestrians, those walking dogs, and those pushing strollers around the neighborhood.
Maintaining clear sidewalks is a safety issue that must be addressed. Open walkways are essential to allow people to pass, but also to enable equipment, such as snow removal, maintenance crews, and sanitation teams to work effectively. Unkempt sidewalks and low-hanging branches, open the neighborhood to vulnerabilities such as slip and fall cases and injuries. When greenery impedes our sidewalks, pedestrians are forced to step off onto the curb plots, compacting the soil, which then affects their condition and impedes grass growth. Understandably, your neighbors would rather not be forced to step into a muddy curb plot to avoid shrubbery.
Please do your part in keeping our neighborhood pathways clear and free of overgrowth. Remember: It is recommended that all plantings be setback at least 24” or more from property lines to avoid this issue.
Fall is the perfect time to address any overgrowth and sculpt your bushes in a manner you see fit. As the winter months approach, the Gardens maintenance crew will be assessing all sidewalk access in preparation for snow removal and trimming any unaddressed obstacles. If you need assistance with yard maintenance, please contact the FHGC office for referrals.
